The Appearance of Sorrow

June 4, 2010

The Appearance of Sorrow

“symphonic,minimalist, ambient,strings”
In the spirit of Polish composer, Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, a minimalist symphonic piece.

It is the appearance of sorrow…sorrow comes for a season
We wrestle with the reality
And understand without reason.

It passes in our notice, devoid of any form,
and holds deep the promise
of a peace beyond the storm.

The Appearance of Sorrow by Randy Maugans

Please listen with headphones or a better sound system. The nuances can be lost on computer speakers. This is a high fidelity file.
Played and mixed in Ableton Live 8.0.4, mastered with Steinberg Wavelab 5. Scoring and MIDI-Sibelius 6.

This is a longer piece in one movement. I wrote this over the winter, then began to try adding other elements to it…in the end I went with the arrangement heard here which is just strings and synth sub-harmonics.

  1. Very nice. Didn’t know you could do music, too!
